Running stock (and jailbroken!) iPhone apps on a NON-JAILBROKEN IPAD 2, including Installous!

Just a little experiment that I wanted to try. Basically, I took some of the stock applications from my jailbroken iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3, tethered), including Calculator, Clock (MobileTimer), Compass, Stocks, Voice Memos, and Weather, and put them onto my non-jailbroken iPad 2 via the Crappstore Xcode 3.2.x template. They all worked just fine, except for Voice Memos. I have no idea why it crashes. I also took Installous and MobileTerminal. The actual app for Installous works and functions just fine, it just won’t install anything because Installous is being ran in a sandboxed state. It also needs a number of other things, such as Erica Utilities and UDID Generator, which can’t be installed unless jailbroken. But, you can use Installous to download .ipa files (disclaimer: use it as a try-before-you-buy sort of thing!) and then transfer them onto your computer via iPhone Explorer. MobileTerminal launches, but gives me an error, also because it’s being sandboxed and can’t access anything outside of it. Looks like iDOS is still the only real way to access the iPad 2′s filesystem WITHOUT being jailbroken (since you can mount root directories to access the files). Twitter: twitter.com
